"Our ambitious task for 2019 is to introduce a regional gender inequality index in Ukraine. And we are already working on methodology, in particular, on the adaptation of UNDP methodology and we are shaping formulas, " Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko stated at the Second Ukrainian Women's Congress.
According to the Vice Prime Minister, at present, two indicators are used for monitoring regional development (in accordance with the world practice): regional competitiveness index and index of regional human development ( life duration, level of education, standard of living).
"Gender Inequality Index (GII) will be a separate corrective coefficient when calculating the regional human development index. This is a very audacious task, since only the countries as a whole are rated for this index. Our index will reflect the inequality of achievement between men and women in three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment, and labor market - economic activity. As a result, we strive to achieve a clear picture of gender gaps in key areas of human development in each region, " Hennadii Zubko stressed.
