Three years of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund: donor contributions reach EUR 1.2 billion
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in April 2022 through a joint initiative by Ukraine’s Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, and EU Energy Commissioner, Kadri Simson. Over its existence, it has become an effective tool for providing international assistance in the energy sector.
“For all these years of war, energy has been one of the enemy’s primary targets, with tens of thousands of energy infrastructure facilities damaged. The Ukraine Energy Support Fund has become a vital tool for international aid. It has proven its effectiveness by focusing on rapid response and addressing equipment procurement needs. This enables swift and timely repairs precisely when the energy system needs every kilowatt of electricity. Nearly all Ukrainian energy companies have sought assistance from the Fund, received essential equipment, and continue to actively cooperate,” said German Galushchenko in a Facebook post.
Denmark was the first country to support the Fund’s creation, contributing EUR 500,000. To date, announced partner contributions to the Fund have reached EUR 1.2 billion, uniting 33 donors from 22 countries, including governments, private companies, corporations, and international organisations.
Around 70 Ukrainian energy companies from all regions of the country have received assistance. Approximately 150,000 units of equipment have been delivered to end recipients. Priority is given to equipment for restoring electricity supply, transformers, generators, cables, and vehicles.
“We sincerely thank all countries that have become donors to the Fund and continue to support Ukrainian energy. We are grateful to our partners in the Energy Community for their unwavering support for Ukraine and for creating this Fund, as well as for their clear and efficient organisation of all processes. We thank the European Commission for its support and Kadri Simson personally, who has consistently championed and put significant effort into its development,” the Minister emphasised.
According to him, it is now crucial to maintain effective cooperation, keep up the momentum, and increase contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. “We must continue to unite our efforts to endure the coming winter!” concluded German Galushchenko.
