Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 21 May 2024 13:39

Austrian Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Leonore Gewessler has announced another contribution to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine. It will amount to EUR 5 million. The funding will be directed to restore energy facilities affected by recent russian attacks.

"At a time when the enemy is constantly trying to deprive Ukraine of electricity, it is important to feel reliable support from our partners. Austria is one of those countries that provides us with constant assistance. We are grateful for this," said Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.

It should be noted that this is the second contribution of Austria to the Energy Support Fund established two years ago on the joint initiative of German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. Austria's first contribution to the Fund was EUR 10 million. These resources were used to purchase equipment for Ukrainian thermal power plants and electricity distribution and transmission system operators, primarily in the frontline regions, including Sumy, Kharkiv and Kherson.

In particular, the Austrian funds were used to purchase a steam turbine for one of the CHP plants, oil, and specialised equipment such as hydraulic lifts, backhoe loaders, drilling rigs, car lifts, and a slewing crane.

To date, the amount of contributions to the Energy Support Fund (announced and already transferred) has increased to more than EUR 438 million.
