Roads in frontline regions that support military, medical, and humanitarian transport remain a priority, says Oleksii Kuleba
Ongoing repairs on national highways are underway in all regions of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the year, 1.3 million square meters of road surface damage have been repaired. This is the highest figure in the last six years. To repair the defects, most of the work is being carried out by laying large patches.
“Frontline roads are a separate priority, as they not only meet military logistics needs but are also a way to deliver humanitarian cargo and, if necessary, facilitate evacuations. Given the limited funding, an agreement has been reached with the Ministry of Defense that units of the State Special Transport Service will carry out repairs on these roads within a 30-kilometer zone from the line of contact. An additional UAH 1.5 billion will be allocated for this purpose,” emphasized Oleksii Kuleba.
In the past 24 hours alone, on March 22, road crews repaired 90,000 square meters of damage. Work was carried out on 15 international highways, as well as on certain sections of national highways. A total of 127 crews were involved in the repairs.
The largest volumes of work were carried out on the following highways:
• M-05 Kyiv — Odesa — 16,500 square meters
• M-06 Kyiv — Chop — 10,400 square meters
• M-14 Odesa — Melitopol — Novoazovsk — 6,600 sq. m
• M-03 Kyiv — Kharkiv — Dovzhansky — 5,400 sq. m
Routine repairs on international highways are scheduled to be completed by May 1, and all major work by June 1.
