Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock during her visit to Ukraine. The parties inspected one of the energy facilities destroyed by the enemy and discussed the needs of the Ukrainian energy sector after the resumption of massive russian attacks.
The head of the Ministry of Energy stressed that the most urgent needs for Ukraine are currently the need for power equipment to carry out repairs at generation facilities.
“We are now focusing more on the possibility of using equipment from old, in particular decommissioned, power plants of our partners. This week, our team is working in Germany and investigating which stations and equipment can be used. This is the way that allows us to recover quickly. The situation in the power grid is currently critical, so it is very important to make quick decisions,” explained German Galushchenko.
Annalena Baerbock, in turn, assured that Germany would continue to assist the Ukrainian energy sector, in particular, to communicate among partners the need to strengthen the Ukrainian air defence, which can effectively protect energy facilities.
German Galushchenko thanked Germany for the support provided to Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale russian invasion, including 107 humanitarian aid shipments for the energy sector totalling over 1,400 tonnes, comprising transformers, generators, cables, overhead line fittings and other equipment needed for the restoration work.
The Minister of Energy also stressed that Germany was the largest donor to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, with a contribution of EUR 225 million. The head of the Ministry of Energy noted that these funds were very important for the Ukrainian side and would allow for the purchase of energy equipment and machinery.
