Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 02 July 2024 14:16

As part of the joint project of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the European Commission, Ray of Hope, Ukraine has received several batches of solar panels manufactured by Enel S.p.A.

These are 5,876 solar panels with a total capacity of about 2 MW. All of them will be transferred to meet the needs of Ukrainian hospitals.

The initiative was previously announced by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and the relevant agreements were reached through the joint work of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

“We are grateful to our European partners for their support. Assistance with equipment, namely solar panels, is important to meet the energy supply needs of hospitals.

This will ensure the operation of medical equipment that saves the lives of thousands of Ukrainians,” said Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.

“With russia’s constant attacks on Ukraine’s energy system, the medical infrastructure is becoming very vulnerable. Power cuts affect the operation of hospitals. To ensure that medical facilities can provide uninterrupted medical care to patients, we are working to equip them with alternative energy sources. In particular, solar panels. This is an important step towards energy independence and stable operation of medical facilities. We are grateful to our international partners and friends for this support,” said Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine.

The energy equipment will be delivered to healthcare facilities in Zhytomyr, Volyn, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv and Odesa regions. Additional equipment for the installation of solar panels will be purchased at the expense of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. In the future, the number of healthcare facilities to receive the equipment will increase.

To install the equipment, experts from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) conducted an energy audit of 26 healthcare facilities in the country under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy and with the assistance of the European Commission.
