Italy will provide an additional EUR 10 million to support recovery and repair works in Ukraine's energy sector: Denys Shmyhal
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, and the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, signed an agreement on a new contribution from partners to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, Italy will disburse an additional EUR 10 million for restoration and repair works in the Ukrainian energy sector. Italy had previously provided EUR 13 million to the Energy Support Fund.
During the meeting with Artur Lorkowski, Denys Shmyhal thanked the partners for their support of the Ukrainian energy sector and noted that this was a significant contribution to the stability of our power grid and the safety of millions of Ukrainians.
“Following up on our dialogue in Berlin earlier this week, we discussed strengthening Ukraine’s energy sector and further integration into the energy space. We paid particular attention to attracting additional contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund — one of the key instruments for strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience,” told the Minister of Energy.
The parties also discussed opportunities for international businesses to invest in Ukraine’s energy sector.
“The launch of updated auctions for new generation capacity is an important signal to the market and opens broader opportunities for international investors to participate in Ukraine’s energy recovery and development. We are preparing to present these and other opportunities at the Ukraine Recovery Conference URC 2026 in Gdansk this June. We also agreed to jointly work on mechanisms for mitigating and insuring war-related risks for such investments,” stressed Denys Shmyhal.
He expressed gratitude to the Energy Community Secretariat for the effective coordination of the Fund’s work and close cooperation with Ukraine.
