  • Denys Shmyhal: Expenditures on social, healthcare and education will increase in 2024

    Social expenditures of the state budget in 2024 will amount to UAH 470 billion which is UAH 25 billion more than this year. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told during a Government meeting on November 10.

    "We plan to index pensions in March. We increase the size of the subsidy programme. Next year, we will allocate UAH 50 billion for this purpose, which exceeds this year's amount by UAH 12 billion. We will expand the programme of support for low-income families. We will almost double the expenditures for social protection of people with disabilities," the Head of Government said.

    In addition, for the first time, UAH 1 billion will be allocated for the development of social services. This, according to the Prime Minister, is part of the Government's social transition reform, when the state builds the capacity of people to provide for themselves.

    Denys Shmyhal also informed that healthcare expenditures in 2024 would total UAH 239 billion, which is UAH 31 billion or 15% more than this year.

    "We are adding UAH 16 billion to the medical guarantee programme. We will fully meet the stated need of the Ministry of Health for medicines and medical devices for the treatment of cardiovascular and oncological diseases," the Prime Minister said.

    The Prime Minister added that a pilot project of free dental prosthetics for veterans will be launched. The sum worth UAH 1 billion will be allocated for the construction of shelters and safety conditions in hospitals. Healthcare reform will continue to improve the quality of medical services in every nook and cranny of the country.

    According to the Prime Minister, UAH 179 billion will be allocated for education in 2024. This is an additional 15% to the 2023 budget.

    "We have included in the budget an increase in teachers' salaries. Overall, payments to educators will grow by 21% next year. The average monthly estimated salary of a teacher of the high category will increase from UAH 14,400 to UAH 17,400," said Denys Shmyhal.

    Other important programmes will also be continued with the following resource to be allotted:

    - Construction of shelters - UAH 2.5 billion.

    - Reform of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) - UAH 1.5 billion.

    - Modernisation of school canteens - UAH 1.5 billion.

    - New school buses - UAH 1 billion.

    According to Denys Shmyhal, the budget envisages a 15% increase in funding for science. The main focus is on research, which, in particular, is related to the development of our defence industry. A total of UAH 9.4 billion will be allocated for this purpose.
