Half of all state budget expenditures in 2024 will be allocated to ensure security and defence. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a Government meeting on 10 November.
He said that budget revenues in 2024 would amount to UAH 1 trillion 780 billion, while total budget expenditures would amount to about UAH 3 trillion 350 billion. Citizens and businesses will pay a total of UAH 1 trillion 570 billion in taxes.
"The total resource for security and defence will amount to UAH 1 trillion 693 billion. This is half of all budget expenditures. That is, when we say that every hryvnia of taxpayers goes to ensure our defence, it is literally every hryvnia," the Prime Minister said.
Denys Shmyhal added that this amount was preliminary, and the state would adjust it depending on the situation. Any additional resources, he said, will be used for these needs.
"The salaries of our defenders will be the main item of expenditure in the entire budget. We are talking about UAH 1 trillion 67 billion. Record funding is also provided for the purchase and production of domestic weapons and equipment. We are talking about UAH 448 billion," the Head of Government noted.
The Prime Minister added that, in particular, UAH 51 billion would be allocated for the development of the defence industry. UAH 43.3 billion will be earmarked for the development and purchase of drones: "Many new programmes, new production facilities, new technologies. More ammunition, missiles, equipment and drones. This is the priority for us now."
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the State Budget for 2024 on November 9.
