Denys Shmyhal: The EUR 2.8 billion received from the EU will enable Ukraine to continue systemic reforms and strengthen the energy system’s preparedness for future challenges

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal personally expressed his gratitude for the latest EU disbursement under the Ukraine Facility during a meeting in Kyiv with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

The parties discussed preparations for the upcoming heating season, as well as the key needs and priorities of Ukraine’s energy sector. As Denys Shmyhal noted, Ukraine requires more than EUR 5.3 billion to implement immediate and medium-term priorities, including the protection of energy infrastructure, restoration of damaged networks and heat generation facilities, development of distributed generation, and establishment of strategic equipment reserves.

“We highly appreciate the European Union’s decision to provide EUR 920 million in winter support for Ukraine. We look forward to its swift practical implementation,” the Minister of Energy emphasized.

The meeting also focused on potential new financial support instruments that could further strengthen Ukraine’s energy security.

Particular attention was paid to the ongoing integration of the Ukrainian and European energy markets, as well as the next steps in advancing the reform agenda.

“I am grateful to the European Commission for its solidarity, practical assistance, and shared vision of our future,” Denys Shmyhal said following the meeting.
