The delegation of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine headed by Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Maliuska and including Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration Liudmyla Suhak is on a working visit to Venice (Italy). The main purpose of the visit is to participate in a series of meetings at the level of justice ministers of the G7 countries on 9-10 May.
As part of the official visit, Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Maliuska and Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin met with Minister of Justice of the Italian Republic Carlo Nordio.
The participants focused on the situation in Ukraine, the prevention of international corruption, the fight against drug trafficking and all forms of organised crime, artificial intelligence (AI), as well as security and rule of law issues.
In addition, the parties discussed measures to support Ukraine, including strengthening democratic institutions.
Background Information
On 1 January 2024, Italy took over the presidency of the G7 Ambassadors Group. Among the main areas of activity during the country's presidency will be the protection of the international legal order. In particular, attention will be paid to the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine, which has shaken the current system of international relations and caused growing instability in the world due to increase in the number of international conflicts.
The Group of Seven (G7) summit is a forum that brings together Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The European Union also participates in the work of the Group and is represented at the summits by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
This year's G7 Summit will be held under the Italian presidency in Puglia on 13-15 June.
