Ukraine is willing to work together with the EU to achieve full independence from russian resources. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized in his address at a business forum on the EU-Ukraine strategic partnership in the raw materials sector within the framework of the European Raw Materials Week 2022.
The event was attended by Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič.
Denys Shmyhal noted that in 2021 Ukraine ranked among the top 10 countries in the production of titanium, iron ore, kaolin, manganese, zirconium, and graphite. Among 120 types of minerals consumed in the world, 117 were found in the subsoil of Ukraine. Moreover, deposits of 22 out of 30 minerals, which are included in the list of critical for the EU, are concentrated in the territory of Ukraine.
In addition, the Prime Minister stressed that our country remains committed to the green transition and achieving the goals of the European Green Deal.
"The post-war reconstruction of the country will be based on the development of clean technologies in compliance with the best EU standards. We stand ready to work together with the European Commission and stakeholders on various initiatives to strengthen Europe's resource security," the Prime Minister said.
According to the Head of Government, Ukraine can become an important element of the European economic community in the extraction sector and an integrated part of the common industrial chains with the European Union.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Ukraine should be an integral part of the EU Raw Materials Strategy until 2030, which is to be approved by April 2023.
