Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze: Ukraine calls for further support and implementation of projects in the framework of Canadian technical assistance
Ukraine needs further
support and implementation of new projects within
the framework of Canadian technical
assistance. Among the priority areas
of the projects
are the continuation
of existing programs and the
possible launch of new ones
in terms of the civil
service reform, support of small
and medium businesses, health care, and support
for internally displaced persons. This was stated
by Vice Prime
Minister of Ukraine for European
and Euro-Atlantic Integration
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze during
a meeting with Marie-Claude
Bibeau, Minister for International Development
of Canada in Ottawa.
The Vice Prime
Minister expressed gratitude for the
technical assistance provided by the
Canadian side and briefed interlocutors
on future initiatives, successful projects that have
already been kicked off and
continue to be implemented. Among them, in
particular, the creation and training
of the National
Police of Ukraine, the development
of a system of free legal
aid, support for local economic
development, the contribution both to the development
of democracy through the promotion
of gender equality and journalistic
anti-corruption investigations,
and the quality
of election monitoring.
A special emphasis
in the course
of the meeting
was placed on a gender equality
issue. In June 2017, the Government of Canada
announced the launch of a new
Feminist International Assistance Policy. It is expected
that 80% of Canadian aid will
be directed to the implementation
of important projects in the field
of gender equality by 2021-2022. The new assistance
policy will be implemented in six interrelated
areas: gender equality and women's
empowerment, human dignity; economic growth, protection of the environment
and the fight
against climate change, inclusive management and peace and security.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stressed that gender equality
is one of
the topmost priorities for the Government and also added
that cooperation in the field
of gender equality between Ukraine and Canada
could be increased in priority,
in particular with regard to
assistance for internally displaced persons,
58% of which are women, as
well as to enhancement of the institutional
capacity of the state to
ensure gender equality.
According to the Minister of International
Development, the assessment and prioritization of Canadian technical assistance across the countries is
underway. Marie-Claude Bibeau
emphasized that the development of relations between
the countries and the support
of Ukraine are of utmost
importance important for Canada.

for the better.
