Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of
Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze took part in a round table
"Partnership for implementation of the UN Convention on the elimination of
all forms of discrimination against women in Ukraine." The event, hosted
by the office of the United Nations in Ukraine, gathered about 100 members of
Government, Parliament, civil society and the media.
As for today, the issue of equality and women's rights is of paramount importance
for the United Nations. It is a component of the work of all 18 agencies, programmes and funds working in Ukraine. At the
governmental level, a coordination of gender policy tasks lays within the
responsibility of Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze who opened the round table. She
stressed the importance of gender equality for the modern Ukraine and outlined
the nearest plans in this area. “One of the top priority objectives I set in
front of myself is to establish an office of the Government Commissioner for
gender equality policy and to appoint the Commissioner”, underscored the Vice
Prime Minister.
According to her, it is crucial to ensure the public awareness in the
issue, as gender equality problem is being downplayed. It is of utmost
importance to enhance cooperation and coordination between all state
institutions, civil society and international organizations. Another
significant objective is the ratification by the Council of Europe of the Convention on preventing and combating violence
against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention). "The
failure to ratify the Istanbul Convention places us on a par with the Russian
Federation", emphasized Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Serhii
Kyslytsia.
In the roundtable, namely, were participating, UN Resident Coordinator
and UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Neal Walker, Deputy Social Policy Minister of
