Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and President of the European Council Donald Tusk during a meeting in Brussels discussed urgent issues of cooperation between the EU and Ukraine, namely the introduction of a visa-free regime and the process of ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
"Ukraine has fulfilled all criteria for the free visa regime. We are looking forward to the EU to comply with its obligations without delay", stressed Volodymyr Groysman.
While discussing reforms in Ukraine, Donald Tusk noted that the European Union closely monitors the results of activities of the Ukrainian Government.
"The
European Council highly evaluates the progress of reforms of the Ukrainian
Government", emphasized Donald Tusk.
The focus
of the talks was also the security situation in the East of Ukraine.
Volodymyr
Groysman drew attention to the fact that the deterioration of the situation in eastern
Ukraine, as well as recent shelling in Avdiyivka jeopardize the whole process of settlement of the conflict
in Donbas.
In this
context, Donald Tusk expressed his full support for Ukraine in the process of
peaceful settlement. He also praised the "efficient Government action directed
to restore normal life in the town of Avdiyivka."
During the
talks, the President of the European Council reassured the Prime Minister of
Ukraine of his support of the need to continue the sanctions policy towards the
Russian Federation.
"Sanctions
mean punishment, while lifting of sanctions means a reward for cessation of
aggression and the willingness to adhere to generally accepted rules of
international law, sovereignty, territorial integrity of independent States and
democratic values", emphasized Volodymyr Groysman.
