Minister of Infrastructure Andrii Pivovarsky said this during a Ukrainian-German workshop
"Railway transport", held on December 3, at the Ministry of
Infrastructure.
A German delegation of enterprises from the railway industry was headed by
State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure
of Germany Rainer Bomba. The event also gathered representatives
of PJSC Ukrainska Zaliznytsia and the German
Embassy.
Andrii Pivovarsky informed the German
side about the progress of reform in the railway sphere of Ukraine. In
particular, he focused on the corporatization of Ukrzaliznytsia,
which would lead to a change in management philosophy, approaches to
operational processes and company’s management.
Liberalization of railway activities will be the next step. The Cabinet of
Ministers has approved to submit draft laws "On Railway Transport"
and "On the National Commission for Transport Regulation" to the Verkhovna Rada. "
Such steps of the Ministry are expected to cause an investment boom in the
railway area. According to the Minister, the railways need investment in the
amount no less than USD 1 billion per year.
The German side highly appreciated the activities of the Ministry of
Infrastructure on reforming the railway sector. As Rainer Bomba
pointed out, Germany will continue to support infrastructure projects of the
Ministry. The parties agreed to pursue cooperation at the level of agreements
between PJSC Ukrainska Zaliznytsia and German
business.
