PM appealed to Interior Ministry and SSU strengthen security measures on the eve of May holidays
Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Security Service of Ukraine and the
entire law enforcement system to strengthen security measures on the eve of the
70th anniversary of the Second World War: "It's personal
responsibility of the Ministry of Interior, Security Service, the National
Guard," the
Prime Minister said during a conference call with the heads of regional state
administrations on Friday, April 17.
"The
situation is very difficult. There
is no doubt that anti-Ukrainian forces will try to use the celebration of the
70th anniversary of the Second World War and the May holidays for
destabilizing the situation," Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined.
"Therefore,
the protection and security of the citizens, the fight against all forms of
terrorism and separatism, prompt investigation of murders that were committed
in the past few days – Mr. Kalashnikov and Mr. Buzina,
as well as prevention activities in order to avoid any provocations, any
deterioration of the situation before the May holidays," the Prime
Minister emphasized.
He appealed to
the Ministry of Internal Affairs and representatives of the whole law
enforcement system to take the situation in every region "under special
control", "Introduce street patrols so that
every person could ask an employee in a form for assistance. In
order to make citizens’ public order and safety the main priorities."
"This is the
personal responsibility of each head of law enforcement structure in every
region. It's
the personal responsibility of the Ministry of Interior, Security Service, National Guard. I
appeal to our law enforcement system to take all measures to strengthen
security in cities, villages, districts, to deal with any manifestation of terrorism
and terrorist organizations, to prevent the escalation of the situation,
provocations and to protect the Ukrainian citizens," Arseniy
Yatsenyuk stressed.
The Prime
Minister also instructed the Ministry of Interior and the State Emergency Service
to prepare a meeting of the State Emergency Commission next week.
He instructed the
Interior Ministry to conduct a separate telephone conference with all heads of
regional police units and submit a report to the PM next Wednesday.
Moreover, Arseniy Yatsenyuk requested law enforcement officers to inform the public about the investigation of several murders, which were committed over the past few days, in accordance with the criminal procedure law.
