Volodymyr Demchyshyn holds a working meeting with British Ambassador to Ukraine
Minister
of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn held a working meeting with Ambassador of Great Britain to Ukraine Simon Smith.
Volodymyr Demchyshyn acquainted the guest with the situation in the energy sector of Ukraine, noting that ensuring the stable operation of the energy complex today depends largely on the diversification of energy supply sources and routes.
The
Minister informed about the progress of reforms in the energy sector, including the introduction of bills on the gas market, electricity and national
regulator, as well as the concept of restructuring of NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, Plan on reforming the oil and gas industry and the coal industry
reform program.
"Today, it is important for Ukraine to upgrade thermal power plants with a view to transferring them to use gas coal. We, therefore, welcome any help from partners and invite them to cooperation on the relevant projects," the Minister appealed to the British colleagues.
In
addition, during the meeting the sides discussed measures aimed at saving energy resources. Volodymyr Demchyshyn said that the Ministry is working to ensure the reduction of consumption via the effective use of resources that has already become noticeable during the 2014-2015 heating season.
The British side expressed its support for Ukraine's steps towards achieving energy independence and emphasized readiness to continue cooperation with Ukraine in the energy sector and the implementation of joint investment projects.
