Arseniy Yatsenyuk refers to economically grounded tariffs for transportation of gas: We won't subsidize Russian Gazprom

At the Government’s session on June 16 the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk addressed the National Commission for state energy regulation with a request to immediately fulfill a commission on introducing economically grounded tariffs for transportation of Russian natural gas via the territory of Ukraine.

“We won’t subsidize Russian Gazprom,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed.  

He noted that Ukrainian side had appealed to the partners from the EU and the U.S.A. with a proposal to jointly upgrade and exploit Ukrainian gas transporting system: “A law should be submitted to the Parliament which will provide an opportunity to attract our European and American partners to exploitation and modernization of Ukrainian gas transportation system, preserving control of Ukrainian state over the GTS”.

The Head of Government addressed the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yurii Prodan to stir up implementation of an order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to set up a public joint stock company “Ukrainian gas storages facilities” and PJSC “Ukrainian main pipelines”.

Moreover, the PM appealed to the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry and head of Board of Naftogaz Ukrainy: “I ask you to set to Europe with regards to opening of large reverse flows. Our current reverse price is lower than the Russian price”.

“Our decision on protection of the Ukrainian state, our independence and our citizens is the only right decision. We will resist the Russian pressure. And none will sign papers with them at nights – in the aftermath these papers could cost billions of dollars,” the Head of Government urged.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed the Ukrainian side would pursue the policy “in the same format it has pursued in the recent three months – fair, open, transparent, on market conditions in compliance with the position of our European partners”.
