Olexandr Sych: We should attract the widest range of the public as well as authorities to support Ukrainian book publishing

"The main task of the Interdepartmental Commission on the development of home book printing and book distribution is to develop effective mechanisms of protection of the Ukrainian book market, promotion of Ukrainian book publishing, promotion of books in society. It includes representatives of all offices, on which depends the fate of the Ukrainian book, in order to ensure its effectiveness,” Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Sych stated during the meeting of the restored Interdepartmental Commission on development of home book printing and book distribution under the chairmanship of the Vice-Premier.

During the meeting was considered a number of key issues, including preservation of privileges for Ukrainian publishers, without which the Ukrainian book could go up by 30-40 per cent. "The issue of preserving the VAT exemptions should be solved for the near future not only tactically, but also strategically. We delegate representatives of the Interdepartmental Commission to the working groups that are currently working on developing new revision of the budget and tax codes in order to form a transparent and logical system providing benefits to Ukrainian publishers", Olexandr Sych stressed.

Between general meetings the members of the Interdepartmental Commission will work in four working groups, preparing draft decisions and their implementation mechanisms. In addition, according to the official, to strategic issue of development of the Ukrainian book, the development of a network of book distribution must be involved as wide as possible communities and all levels of government. "As a result of our meeting, I will give the order to the heads of regional state administrations to create the appropriate interdepartmental commissions under the regional state administration, which will coordinate their work with us at the local level", the Vice Prime Minister summarized.
