The Skills4Recovery programme, supported by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Education and Science, has trained 1,200 highly skilled professionals to help rebuild Ukraine while strengthening the capacity of the State Employment Service. By the end of 2024, a total of more than 2,000 Ukrainians will be trained in 23 professions under the programme.

"To overcome the imbalances in the labour market, when, on the one hand, businesses are experiencing a shortage of staff, and on the other hand, many Ukrainians are unemployed because their professional level and qualifications do not meet the needs of employers, we have launched a number of training programmes together with our partners. Anyone who wants to change their profession to one that is more in demand in the labour market or improve their skills can take advantage of them. Thanks to the Skills4Recovery programme, 1,200 Ukrainians have already been trained, in particular at the vocational training centres of the State Employment Service, and have mastered professions in the key sectors for the country's recovery - construction, logistics, agriculture, and IT. We are grateful to our partners for supporting our policy and the opportunity to scale it up, as well as for helping us to implement European standards in the training of qualified specialists," said Tetiana Berezhna, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine.

In total, by the end of 2024, more than 2,000 Ukrainians will be trained in 23 professions under the Skills4Recovery programme.

"Skilled workers are the key to economic stability. We focus on modernising vocational education by providing modern equipment, training managers and teachers, and supporting vulnerable groups such as women, veterans and internally displaced people. Skills4Recovery also assists our partners in repositioning vocational education institutions and developing strategies for veterans' return to civilian life," said Michael Paulo, PTeam Leader of Skills4Recovery, at GIZ GmbH.

Over the year of operation of the Skills4Recovery programme, more than 20 vocational education providers in 11 regions of Ukraine have been strengthened. These include vocational education and training institutions and vocational education centres of the State Employment Service. 230 teachers and managers have acquired skills in management, digitalisation and financing of institutions, as well as knowledge to overcome gender stereotypes and work with vulnerable groups.

To ensure that educational services meet the requirements of the times and employers' needs, the programme has purchased and donated nearly 1,500 pieces of modern equipment to vocational education institutions: agrodrones, 3D printers, Starlink satellite modems, special simulators, interactive panels, various tools and machines for various purposes.

To facilitate the integration of graduates into the labour market, they receive professional development and career guidance counselling, and promote the development of entrepreneurial skills among young people and adults. 500 students have improved their business skills and 190 recruiters are ready to support vulnerable groups.
