"At around 20:00, the occupiers ignited a fire at the technical water supply facility on the territory of the nuclear power plant. This may have damaged the cooling tower and other manufacturing equipment. However, the means we have, i.e. monitoring systems, have not yet recorded any emissions of radioactive substances or contamination," said Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk.
Also, according to the IAEA, in order to clarify the circumstances and causes of the incident, the Agency's mission on the ground is requesting that the russian occupiers immediately provide access to the facility where the fire occurred to assess the situation.
The IAEA confirmed that the radiation level at the plant remains unchanged.
"Once again, no emissions or discharges have been recorded so far. Therefore, let's hope that this situation will not develop further towards some kind of man-made disaster," the Deputy Minister said.
