  • 1,179 cultural heritage sites damaged in Ukraine due to russian aggression

    The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications continues to record damage to cultural heritage sites in Ukraine as a result of russian aggression.

    According to the information provided by the regional and Kyiv city military administrations, in October the total number of affected cultural heritage monuments in the regions increased by 10 items and now stands at 1,179. Of these, 120 are of national significance, 990 are of local significance, and 69 are newly discovered.

    Repeated attacks on previously damaged cultural heritage sites occurred in Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions. New attacks took place in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

    As of today, cultural sites in 18 regions and the city of Kyiv have been damaged, in particular: 316 in Kharkiv region, 163 in Donetsk region, 157 in Kherson region, 116 in Odesa region, 81 in Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv, 65 in Chernihiv region, 60 in Lviv region, 53 in Zaporizhzhia region, 41 in Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk region each, 31 in Luhansk region, 29 in Sumy region, 10 in Khmelnytskyi region, 6 in Poltava region, 4 in Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions, and 1 in Kirovohrad and Cherkasy regions.

    As of the end of October 2024, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kherson regions are still under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to calculate the exact number of damaged cultural heritage sites affected by the hostilities and occupation.
