Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 08 April 2024 16:16

Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark Lars Aagaard, who arrived in Kyiv on an official visit.

During the meeting, German Galushchenko informed his counterpart about the current situation in the Ukrainian energy sector and the consequences of the recent enemy attacks.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine thanked the Danish side for its assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector and reminded that Denmark had become the first donor to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. In total, Denmark has contributed about EUR 11 million to the Fund over the past two years.

“We thank Denmark for this leadership and for setting an example that other countries have subsequently followed. Today, the Fund is an effective mechanism for helping the energy sector, through which equipment for rehabilitation and repairs is purchased. This strengthens the resilience of our power system,” said German Galushchenko.

Lars Aagaard, for his part, noted that in recent weeks russia had intensified its targeted attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.

According to Lars Aagaard, Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is suffering significant damage. Denmark is providing USD 5.8 million as a contribution to the necessary reconstruction so that Ukraine can maintain its energy supply.

At the meeting, the ministers discussed the current needs of the Ukrainian energy sector and measures to ensure the stable operation of the Ukrainian energy system during the next heating season.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in April 2022 at the initiative of German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. It has accumulated more than EUR 405 million from partners and has become an effective tool to help energy companies after the russian attacks.
