During a working visit of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to Zakarpattia on 11 April, the project of construction of the Chop-Uzhhorod European railway by Ukrzaliznytsia was launched.
"Uzhhorod becomes the first regional centre of Ukraine to be connected to Europe by the European gauge. This will make it possible to establish direct railway connections between Uzhhorod and Vienna, Bratislava, Košice, Budapest, Prague, Bucharest, Dresden and Belgrade," the Prime Minister stressed.
According to him, the implementation of the project will create a transport hub in Uzhhorod that will provide convenient and fast transfer of passengers between wide-gauge trains and trains of EU countries.
Denys Shmyhal noted that the construction of this European gauge will be financed by EU grants received by Ukrzaliznytsia under the Connecting Europe Facility programme.
In the near future, it is planned to implement similar projects in Lviv and Chernivtsi with EU funds.
