    With the participation of the Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, a solemn launch of works on electrification of the Cherkasy - T. Shevchenko Station section of the regional branch Odesa Railway of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia".

    The event was also attended by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration Oleksandr Skichko.

    The Prime Minister was informed that this year, thanks to the modernization and electrification of the railway from Cherkasy to - T. Shevchenko Station in the city of Smila with a total length of 30 km, high-speed electric trains will be launched from Cherkasy to the capital with a travel time of 2 hours 30 minutes.

    Denys Shmyhal stressed that the electrification of this section is a landmark event, as only two cities - Cherkasy and Zhytomyr - have so far been deprived of railway connections with the vast majority of regions of Ukraine.

    "Starting electrification, we are are breaking the ground in the development of modern railways in Cherkasy region. In the long run, this will have a serious economic effect. We are talking about comfort and speed of transportation, and a large flow of passengers, as many residents of the region work in Kyiv and get home on weekends, and the development of tourism as well," said Denys Shmyhal.

    Due to the electrification of the railway from Cherkasy to T. Shevchenko Station residents of the region will ensure a qualitatively new suburban traffic with the regional center. Fast and convenient trains will depart from Horodyshche, Korsun-Shevchenkivsky, Smila, Kamyanka to Cherkasy.

    According to the Prime Minister, the plans for the next years envisage the continuation of electrification from Cherkasy to Hrebinka station with a total length of 90 km.

    "Instead of a dead-end in terms of transport regional center, Cherkasy will become an infrastructural transit hub. This will give an impetus to the development of business and economy of the region, social and economic activity of citizens," the Head of Government emphasized.

    The Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration Oleksandr Skichko, for his part, noted that a new era of transport connections with the capital and other regions is beginning for Cherkasy.

    "Even as the chairman of the subcommittee on railway transport of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, I was dealing with resolving this issue for my hometown. And today, contrary to what skeptics were saying, we have a real result. Today we have given a huge impetus to the development of the region in the long run. And this is due to the Great Construction program of the President of Ukraine", said Olexandr Skichko.

    According to the Prime Minister, daily trains will be launched from Cherkasy to the neighboring regional center - Kropyvnytskyy, and it will be possible to launch a day high-speed train Kharkiv - Cherkasy - Lviv, which will also pass through Poltava, Bila Tserkva, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, where reside more than 4 million citizens of Ukraine.
