During a working trip to Cherkasy region on August 6, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal got acquainted with the work of Cherkasy Airport. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov and Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration Oleksandr Skichko.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had set a task back in 2019 to complete the repair of the airport within two years.
"Cherkasy residents have not had access to air transportation in their city for too long. The airport has not accepted regular flights since 1997 - this is inexcusable in a civilized state. The resumption of air transportation is an important component of the development of the transport industry and investment attractiveness of the region. This will not only allow Cherkasy residents to travel the world but will also open Cherkasy as a promising tourist destination for foreigners," the Prime Minister said.
According to Oleksandr Skichko, Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration, the construction work has already been completed in full. Documents are currently being prepared to obtain a certificate of commissioning of the completed facility. At that, in order to fully launch the airport, the terminal should be repaired and additional equipment purchased.
According to Denys Shmyhal, for the reconstruction of the airport terminal, it is critical to attract investors and implement the project within the framework of a public-private partnership.
