More than 1,000 days have passed since russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During this time, the enemy has been systematically shelling Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities. However, despite russia’s constant attacks, the Ministry of Health and its partners continue to work to restore Ukraine’s medical infrastructure so that doctors can work properly and patients have access to the necessary medical services.
Thus, as of the end of November 2024, 565 healthcare facilities in different regions of Ukraine have been fully restored, and another 370 facilities have been partially restored. These are medical facilities in the de-occupied territories, as well as those that have suffered minor damage: broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc. Most facilities have been restored in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson and Chernihiv regions. Despite russia’s repeated bombardment of Ukraine’s medical infrastructure, Ukraine continues to withstand the challenges of a full-scale war and rebuild hospitals. The reconstruction work will continue.
Every day, the russians continue to deliberately and systematically destroy Ukrainian hospitals, clinics, outpatient clinics, maternity wards and other medical facilities, as well as terrorise the civilian population. The enemy is attacking and bombing Ukrainian medical infrastructure, putting an additional burden on the healthcare system.
In particular, russian shells and missiles have destroyed 289 medical facilities beyond repair. Another 1,878 medical facilities were damaged. Hospitals in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions suffered the greatest losses. It is currently impossible to obtain comprehensive information on the extent of damage to medical facilities in the temporarily occupied territories. In addition, since the beginning of the war, russia has damaged 235 ambulances, destroyed 264 and seized 125.
