According to the most optimistic forecasts, Ukraine needs 5-7 years to demine the entire territory. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Hakobyan announced yesterday on air of the all-Ukrainian telethon.
Since the beginning of the large-scale russian invasion of Ukraine, almost 114,000 explosive devices have been neutralized in our territory. Including almost 2,000 aircraft bombs. Rescuers surveyed an area of more than 22,000 hectares. On average, pyrotechnic units of the SES seize from two to five thousand explosive devices every day.
"If we talk about Ukraine, we currently estimate that the territory of about 300,000 square kilometers is polluted. This is ten times more than the international experience. Based on the fact that one day of active hostilities is equal to 30 days of demining, according to the most optimistic forecasts, we need 5-7 years before full demining," said Mary Hakobyan.
The Deputy Minister spoke about the steps taken by the Government to speed up the process of humanitarian demining.
"The International Center for Humanitarian Demining has been established. The purpose of creating this center is, in particular, to attract international assistance: professional, technical and financial. Almost 20 foreign organizations have already responded and are being certified to work in Ukraine," Mary Hakobyan said.
She also noted that several teams had already arrived in Ukraine and from next week they would start working in different regions of the country.
