The Government has adopted a decision that expands the possibilities for obtaining the status of a child affected by the war.

From now on, the status can be granted not only at the place of internal displacement but also at the place of application or where the child was located by local authorities. Additionally, the grounds for granting this status have been expanded to include deportation, forced displacement, and cases where parents have died or gone missing due to the war.

“Today, over 412,000 children already have this status. However, the number of children affected by the war is far greater. Over a million have been forced to leave their homes, and thousands have experienced loss, evacuation, or shelling. These changes are crucial to ensuring the protection of every child’s rights,” emphasised Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

The adopted decision will allow a broader group of children affected by the war to be covered and will strengthen state protection of their rights.
