Yulia Svyrydenko: Government disburses UAH 2 billion for the purchase of 540 school buses in 2026
The Government has approved the allocation of UAH 2 billion for the purchase of school buses in 2026. Local authorities shall use these funds to purchase more than 540 buses. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
According to her, the Government endorsed the priority order in which buses will be purchased:
- Institutions that will become academic lyceums from the 2027/2028 academic year and will accept students from other schools in the community.
- Schools to which children are transported from institutions that were liquidated or reorganised in 2026.
- Special schools and educational rehabilitation centres.
- Schools with at least 200 children.
- Institutions with more than 100 students.
The Head of Government emphasised that a mandatory condition for receiving a subsidy is the presence of a shelter in the educational institution or nearby, as well as co-financing from local budgets.
"Institutions where children with special educational needs study have priority in receiving specially equipped buses within each of the lines," Yulia Svyrydenko stressed.
In 2025, the Government's School Bus programme, with a budget of UAH 2.7 billion and co-financing from local communities, made it possible to purchase about 700 buses manufactured in Ukraine.
