  • Yuliia Svyrydenko and Gina Raimondo discuss investment attraction, creation of joint defence enterprises and war risk insurance

    The Ukrainian delegation headed by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko has begun a working visit to the United States.

    The delegation of Ukraine comprises Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov, Deputy Minister of Defence for European Integration Oleksandr Balanutsa, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Volodymyr Horbatiuk, Head of the Main Logistics Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Shevtsov, Deputy Heads of the Presidential Office Mykola Tochytskyi and Olena Kovalska, Advisor to the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev and Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Dariia Zarivna.

    During the visit, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko met with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

    Yuliia Svyrydenko expressed her gratitude for the extension of the suspension of the additional 25% import duty on Ukrainian steel for another year and the expansion of access to the US market for steel products manufactured in the EU using Ukrainian semi-finished products. The parties discussed further possible steps to expand Ukrainian steel exports to the US market.

    Yuliia Svyrydenko and Gina Raimondo talked about building an infrastructure for attracting investment to Ukraine. In particular, in the context of attracting foreign investment to Ukraine. In particular, in the context of leveraging investment in Ukraine's defence sector, Yuliia Svyrydenko expressed gratitude for the USD 2 billion in aid announced by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

    "We are interested in using part of these funds to produce weapons in Ukraine jointly with American companies, in particular through the creation of joint defence enterprises. I am grateful to Gina Raimondo for her willingness to make efforts to engage American defence companies in cooperation with Ukrainian enterprises and jointly produce weapons for the needs of the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine," said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

    The parties also discussed the development of the war risk insurance market and business travel insurance. Yuliia Svyrydenko and the U.S. Secretary of Commerce discussed ways to attract private insurance companies from the United States to develop this market segment.

    The parties also touched upon the issue of attracting financing for mortgage lending programmes. In particular, financial support from the U.S. Corporation for International Development (DFC) for the eOselia programme.

    In conclusion, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine thanked the United States for the latest sanctions package introduced on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day and for its cooperation in strengthening export controls against russia. In addition, she stressed the importance of strengthening controls on countries through which russia attempts to circumvent sanctions.
