Today, Vice Prime Minister Vyacheslav Kyrylenko held a meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the preparation and holding of the International Forum devoted to the 85th anniversary of 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ukrainian World Congress, the Public Committee for the Commemoration of the Victims of Holodomor-Genocide 1932-1933 in Ukraine, representatives of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Information Policy, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Kyiv city state administration.

Vyacheslav Kyrylenko stressed on the need to coordinate the efforts of all executive authorities in the process of preparation for the International Forum devoted to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. The Forum will take place in late November 2018 in Kyiv.

"The main purpose of the Forum is to disseminate truth about the Holodomor and to continue the process of recognition by the global community of 1932-33 Famine a genocide against the Ukrainian people", Vyacheslav Kyrylenko accentuated.

In this context, the participants of the interdepartmental working group discussed organizational issues and voiced proposals to the program of events. On the outcomes of the meeting the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance was commissioned to summarize the proposals of the working group members and to submit a revised draft concept and program of events at the next meeting.

It is planned to invite heads of state, government and parliament, government officials, leaders of international organizations, scholars engaging in investigating the Holodomor, representatives of educational, museum and cultural institutions to participate in the International Forum.

Background

Pursuant to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated November 26, 2016, "On measures related to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine - Genocide of the Ukrainian people", the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine set up an Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of events to commemorate the 85th anniversary of 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine.

For the first time, the International Forum devoted to the Famine theme was held in Kyiv in November 2008 to mark the 75th anniversary of the genocide.
