Ukraine feels a staunchest support of the United States and is grateful for backing country’s desire to gain energy independence. Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion made this statement during a meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Diplomacy, Head of the Bureau of Energy and Natural Resources Sandra Oudkirk.

The sides discussed three energy reforms being currently implemented in our country and considered in depth the issue of regional European energy security caused by the construction of the Nord Stream 2.

"We highly praise your support for our energy security and are grateful for the help in counteracting Russian aggression in the east of Ukraine. Nord Stream 2 is a politically motivated project that is implemented using double standards. There is no doubt that this is being done in order to have an impact on the energy security of the whole of Europe", the Vice Prime Minister stressed.

According to him, it is possible to confront this only by cohesive actions, sanctions against companies participating in the creation of the Nord Stream 2, amendments to the European Third Energy Package with the requirements to comply with the general rules.

In turn, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sandra Oudkirk commended the efforts of Ukraine in countering the internal and external energy challenges and assured of the U.S. continued support.
