Germany's contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to exceed EUR 800 million: Denys Shmyhal
First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany Katherina Reiche during a visit by a German government and business delegation to Kyiv. The sides discussed the implementation of agreements between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, including support for the energy system ahead of winter, restoration of damaged infrastructure and joint projects.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that Germany is one of Ukraine's most important partners in supporting the energy sector.
"We thank Germany for contributing over EUR 557 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. With the new aid package announced and expected soon, the country’s total contribution will exceed EUR 800 million. We are interested in joint projects involving distributed and flexible generation, energy storage, the modernization of power grids and substations, gas infrastructure, and the protection of critical facilities," said the Minister of Energy.
The sides also discussed deliveries of liquefied natural gas through German infrastructure and the involvement of European companies in work with Ukrainian gas storage facilities.
Particular attention was paid to the restoration of the New Chornobyl NPP Safe Confinement. Denys Shmyhal thanked Germany for its intention to provide EUR 50 million for the restoration of the facility and invited German partners to take part in the EBRD donor conference in Paris on November 9. The sides also discussed Ukraine's experience in building shelters at energy facilities and the possibility of jointly developing new technical solutions.
