Sergii Koretskyi and Friedrich Merz Discuss Economic Cooperation and Joint Projects
Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi talked over with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz the ways to boost economic cooperation, increase trade between our countries, and deliver joint, mutually beneficial projects.
According to Sergii Koretskyi, imports from Germany grew from €5.4 billion in 2021 to over €9.3 billion in 2025. There are many more joint plans ahead.
"We focused on bolstering air defense to protect our people, businesses, and civilian infrastructure from Russian terrorist attacks. I thanked the Chancellor for the large military and energy aid package of over €1.3 billion that he had announced," the Prime Minister said.
Regarding finance, Sergii Koretskyi set out Ukraine's needs for 2026–2027 in detail, as Russian terror intensifies significantly and the cost of the war rises. The Government is taking all necessary steps with partners to meet these needs.
"We agreed to expand cooperation in energy and transport. Truly mutually beneficial cooperation. We discussed purchasing German equipment to restore and modernize our energy sector, as well as locomotives to offset the losses Ukrzaliznytsia had suffered from Russian attacks," the Head of Government said.
The sides paid particular attention to healthcare and the exchange of experience between doctors and hospitals. There is great potential for developing medicine in Ukraine together, combining Germany's civilian healthcare expertise with Ukraine's wartime experience. A unified trauma registry. Updated protocols. Prosthetics.
"I thanked Germany for supporting Ukraine on its path towards European integration. We expect all negotiating clusters to be opened soon, and we are doing everything necessary to make that happen. We value Germany's steadfast leadership in helping and supporting Ukraine. Thank you, Chancellor Merz!" the Prime Minister of Ukraine concluded..
