Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka coordinates next steps for rule of law roadmap with representatives of High Council of Justice and State Judicial Administration

On 14 August, a coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka with representatives of the High Council of Justice and the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine to discuss further steps in implementing the Rule of Law Transformation Roadmap.

During the meeting, Taras Kachka expressed gratitude for the High Council of Justice’s decision to appoint a member to the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine. The staffing and effective operation of the Commission serve as further evidence of Ukraine’s commitment to its partners and the continuation of deep transformations in the rule of law.

Taras Kachka emphasised that judicial system reform is a key component of the Rule of Law Transformation Roadmap, developed as part of the EU accession negotiation process. He stressed the urgency of further coordination to align Ukrainian legislation with EU law within the first negotiation Cluster, “Fundamentals.”

The meeting also addressed obligations related to the digitalisation of judicial processes and the challenges faced by Ukraine’s State Judicial Administration in this area.

“Our goal is to open Cluster 1 of the EU negotiation process, which covers fundamental rights, as soon as possible. Ensuring the rule of law and the dynamic, high-quality transformations outlined in the approved Roadmap must be our shared, unwavering priority. Regardless of the EU’s timeline, reforms must continue, as they are primarily aimed at improving the entire system’s functioning and ensuring transparency and trust from our citizens,” said Taras Kachka.

Representatives of the High Council of Justice and State Judicial Administration expressed appreciation for the meeting and underscored the importance of and commitment to further implementing the Roadmap, as well as collaborating to enact the necessary changes.
