The wearing of vyshyvanka is a centuries-old tradition of the Ukrainian people, which embodies our talents and original culture. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during the festive event The Vyshyvanka DAY, which took place in the capital.

"This is a wonderful holiday that unites Ukrainians around the world. I personally like embroidered clothes and wear them with great pride", the Head of Government said.

Separately, the Prime Minister noticed that he really liked the idea of the holiday, because "this day is celebrated by Ukrainians not by duty, but following their heart."

Volodymyr Groysman told that he has several embroidered shirts from different regions of Ukraine, which are distinguished by ornaments, colors and patterns, but they are all equally valuable to him.

    Background

The Vyshyvanka Day in Ukraine has been celebrated for 13 years. The holiday was initiated by a student of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of the Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in 2007.

Primarily, the Vyshyvanka Day is aimed to popularize Ukrainian national culture and traditions. Holiday campaigns and flashmobs devoted to the Ukrainian embroidered shirt are held not only in Ukraine but also throughout the world. On this day, which is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May, everyone can join the holiday, wearing embroidery on work or study.
