  • Viktor Liashko: A number of health workers who render assistance to patients with COVID-19 will increase

    Ministry of Health of Ukraine is taking steps to increase the number of health workers who will help patients with COVID-19. In particular, experts from leading medical institutions are planning to be involved in regions. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko at a briefing on March 28.

    ”It was determined at the level of the regional structural departments which medical facilities will provide assistance. The question of replenishment of the medical teams, which will be able to provide one or another medical aid, including in intensive care units, is also considered,” Viktor Liashko said.

    He also announced the start of cooperation with the Academy of Medical Sciences, with medical universities and other health care institutions.

    “Now when the number of planned operations is reduced and the resuscitation teams are available, we ask them not only to provide methodical but also practical assistance. Probably, by the rotational method, relocation to certain areas, in which there is a lack of health workers of a certain profile,” the Chief State Sanitary Doctor stressed.

    According to the Deputy Minister, all regional headquarters for elimination of the consequences of the medical and biological emergency in Ukraine were commissioned to set up mobile teams at central district hospitals. The teams will be arriving at the call of a family physician, emergency medical care provider and other health care providers to patients suspected of COVID-19 to collect samples for laboratory testing.

    Victor Liashko urged not to delay visit to doctors when the patient has symptoms specific to COVID-19.

    "If a person has high fever, dry cough and laborious breathing - we recommend not to delay seeing a doctor," said the Deputy Minister of Health. At the same time, he stressed the importance of signing declarations with the family doctor.


    311 COVID-19 cases are confirmed in Ukraine.

    According to the data of Public Health Center, as of 10 a.m. on March 28 in Ukraine there were 311 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 8 were lethal, 5 patients recovered (4 adults, 1 child). During the day, 93 new cases were recorded.

    Confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in the following regions: Vinnytsia region – 16 cases; Volyn region - 2; Dnipropetrovsk region - 7; Donetsk region - 2; Zaporizhzhya region - 10; Zakarpattia region - 1; Zhytomyr region - 4 (1 lethal); Ivano-Frankivsk region - 28 (3 lethtal); Kyiv city - 74; Kyiv region - 41; Lviv region - 5; Luhansk region - 2; Odessa region - 6; Rivne region - 9; Ternopil region - 43 (1 lethal); Kherson region - 1; Cherkassy region -3; Chernivtsi region - 47 (1 lethal); Cherkasy region – 3; Chernihiv region -1.
