The standard for providing medical assistance to patients infected with coronavirus was upgraded yesterday, which is available on the official website of the Ministry of Health. Moreover, there have been determined an algorithm for detection of coronavirus disease, algorithm for providing emergency medical care, rules for the use of personal protective means, rules for the provision of care for patients having coronavirus at home, the criteria for hospitalization. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko at a briefing on March 26.
“I emphasize that there is no specific treatment for the disease caused by a novel coronavirus, symptomatic treatment is being carried out. At the same time, in the world different schemes are applied or tested for treatment as well as different medications are being used,” said Viktor Liashko.
Apart from that, the Ministry of Health has made a decision and established an expert group of leading professors and clinicians who will review all the advanced treatment methods used in the world and recommend them to be used in Ukraine when there remain no options for saving the patient's life.
“We envisage the introduction of clinical sorting, that is, hospitalization of patients with severe and moderate symptoms. All others should be treated on an outpatient basis and at home under supervision as well as medico-sanitary control. For this purpose we recommend to strengthen the center of primary medico-sanitary care, to involve specialists of other specialties, as only a doctor can decide on the criteria for hospitalization and the need to stay in hospital or continue treatment at home,” the Deputy Minister stressed.
According to him, yesterday the WHO released an update on the mechanisms of transmission of coronavirus disease. The key thing here is that WHO is not changing its position and the transmission ways remain as they were – contact and droplet. The agent of the coronavirus is not transmitted by an airborne route, but is transmitted only by large droplets that settle immediately on the surface and from these surfaces, when the person touches them with the hands and then the mucous membrane, the virus infects.
“We must direct every effort to prevent the disease through the droplet mechanism. I urge everyone to comply with quarantine, as all studies prove that self-isolation conditions, clean hands and a determined distance of contact with the patient are the main prevention measures and the main things that affect the containment of the epidemic and the spread of disease in the world!" said the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine.
As of 10:00 a.m. on March 29, there were 418 cases of coronavirus disease reported in Ukraine. There have been 109 confirmed cases in the past 24 hours. The first 4 cases appeared in Kirovohrad region, so in fact there is no other region where the cases of infection were recorded except Mykolaiv region.
