Inaugural meeting of Working Group on preparation of amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men” held

On 15 August, the Working Group on preparation of amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men” began its work under the chair of Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko and with the support of UN Women Ukraine.

The Working Group was established in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy in order to implement paragraph 1.9 of the Protocol Decision of the 9th (thematic) meeting of the Commission for Coordination of Interaction of Executive Authorities on Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men “Combating domestic violence during the war and recovery, taking into account the needs of different target groups”, which took place on 12 June 2023 under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.

The working group included MPs, representatives of ministries, other central executive authorities, the Supreme Court, the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Prosecutor General’s Office, international and civil society organisations.

The first meeting discussed the need for possible amendments to the law, determined the forms and methods of further work and set provisional deadlines for the development of the draft.
