  • Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleg Uruskyi discusses in Turkey new areas of cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry

    On August 18, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleg Uruskyi, who is on a visit to the Republic of Turkey as the head of the Ukrainian delegation, within the framework of the IDEF 2021 International Defense Industry Fair (Istanbul) met with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey by Dr. Çetin Ali Dönmez.

    The parties assessed the effectiveness of a number of ongoing projects and identified the necessary steps for harmonization and development of bilateral cooperation. The meeting’s participants also discussed the involvement of Turkish partners in the creation of industrial parks in Ukraine.

    "Turkey has good experience in this matter, as the country has several dozen such structures," said Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleg Uruskyi.

    In addition, the parties raised issues of cooperation in the aviation and space industries. According to the Minister of Strategic Industries, the Ukrainian side is ready for mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of aircraft engine construction, joint use of outer space, creation of rocket carriers and satellite platforms.

    The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine informed the Turkish side that the improvement of Ukrainian legislation in the field of investment and offset policy is underway.

    "This should lead to the elimination of existing obstacles and the creation of favorable conditions for the organization of military-technical cooperation with foreign countries," Oleg Uruskyi stressed.

    The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine proposed to the leadership of the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council TÜBİTAK to establish mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research with Agency for the Defense Technologies, which is currently being established in Ukraine.

    On the Turkish side, the meeting was also attended by the President of the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council TÜBİTAK, Professor Hasan Mandal, and the General Manager of Baykar Makina, Haluk Bayraktar.

    During the International Defense Industry Fair IDEF 2021, the Ukrainian delegation got acquainted with the products of leading Turkish companies, including ASELSAN, Roketsan, TAI, TEI and STM.

    "There are still many untapped areas of cooperation between our countries in the defense industry. But all those are still ahead," said Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleg Uruskyi and added: "Our states seek peace, but we must be strong to protect ourselves."
