An extremely important meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine and His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine took place.
During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues of concern to Ukrainian society.
"The Orthodox Church of Ukraine constantly takes care of charitable and social issues, including the prevention and counteraction to domestic violence. Together with international organizations, with the support of partner countries, we are working to open centers for people in need so that they can receive the necessary assistance and support," said Metropolitan Epiphanius during the meeting.
For her part, Olha Stefanishyna stressed that the issue of preventing and combating domestic violence is one of the key priorities of her work as Deputy Prime Minister.
"I have set a task to create a single European standard for shelters, where victims of domestic violence can apply. This should be comprehensive assistance, which includes physical protection from the offender, as well as assistance from social workers, psychological assistance. We are also working to expand the network of so-called crisis rooms for such cases. In each region I have visited, I raise the issue of assisting local authorities in the development of such shelters and crisis rooms," said Olha Stefanishyna.
The participants of the meeting agreed that joint efforts in this direction are extremely important to provide effective assistance to victims of domestic violence and found accord to develop a number of joint initiatives in this direction.
Other important issues on the agenda were also discussed during the meeting. In particular, the coronavirus pandemic, its consequences for Ukraine and the world, as well as the issue of vaccination, which is a critical issue on the agenda not only of the Government of Ukraine, but also of the Ukraine-EU dialogue.
"The issue of vaccination is a matter of human life and health, so its importance is difficult to overestimate. Vaccination does not contradict our beliefs and is not prohibited by religious precepts. However, the responsibility for the medical procedure and the quality of the vaccine lies with the health care system and the state, as it is within their competence," said Metropolitan Epiphanius.
"One of the most important tracks of interaction with European colleagues is to receive the vaccine within the COVAX initiative. Therefore, it is сritical to truly inform the citizens of Ukraine about cooperation with the EU in this direction. Today in our country there are many myths and misinformation about vaccination, so an open dialogue should be carried out immediately in all possible circles," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Following the meeting, they agreed to continue cooperation, inter alia in the communication of the issues that were raised.
