Driver's license, vehicle registration certificate and car insurance in Diia (Action) app can be used along with paper documents.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Road Traffic”.

The driver can now show the electronic driver's license, the electronic vehicle registration certificate and the compulsory insurance contract to the police officer to prove his/her identity and the right to drive a car.

The law will enter into force after its publication. Previously, the legal force of these documents was determined by a resolution of October 23, 2019 No. 956 “On the implementation of the pilot project on the application of the electronic driver's license and the electronic certificate of registration of the vehicle” of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Recently, the Parliament considered in the first reading a bill proposing to equate digital passports in Diia with paper ones. After the adoption of this Law, Ukraine will become the first country in the world where the legal force of digital passports will be recognized at the legislative level.
