Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture hosts meeting with agricultural associations preparations for screening with the EU under Chapter 12: Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky held a meeting with representatives of agricultural associations. The meeting took place as part of preparations for the official screening of Ukraine's accession to the EU under Negotiating Chapter 12: Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy.

The event was also attended by the Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Serhii Tkachuk, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and structural units of the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture.

The meeting participants discussed the impact of EU plant protection policy on the future of the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

“European integration is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture. However, our task is to protect Ukrainian agricultural producers during their adaptation to EU rules and requirements, particularly with regards to the use of plant protection products. A strong agricultural sector means a strong economy and a strong state,” said Taras Vysotsky.

Key topics of discussion included:

  • considering EU regulations in the field of plant protection on Ukrainian agriculture and farmers' incomes;
  • ensuring stable exports of Ukrainian agricultural products;
  • ensuring international food security.
