During a regular meeting on January 27, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine supported the decision on compensation to households with electric heating. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the total amount of compensation will be UAH 1.4 billion.

"It is important that this will apply not only to Ukrainians who have electric heating but also to large families, foster families and family-type orphanages. I emphasize that people will not have to go somewhere and carry certificates. Such compensations will be calculated automatically," Denys Shmyhal stressed.

The relevant resolution was adopted by the Government with amendments. The Prime Minister noted that compensation for citizens who have electric heating is one of the 8 steps of the Government's strategy to overcome the tariff crisis and create fair rules in the gas market.

Denys Shmyhal reminded that the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) had set the maximum distribution tariff at UAH 1.79 per cubic meter, and the Government had already introduced the maximum gas price for the population at UAH 6.99 per cubic meter till the end of the heating season.

"We emphasized that this is the marginal price. That is, gas providers can reduce the price to compete for the consumer. Yesterday, gas supply companies published their prices and we could see prices less than UAH 6.99," the Head of Government said.

In addition, the Prime Minister noted that a memorandum on heating and hot water tariffs with the Association of Ukrainian Cities should be finalized this week. We will also adopt a decision to allow not to apply fines or penalties for untimely payment for gas and heating in January.
