The Government has allocated almost UAH 214 million to strengthen the protection of the state border with the Republic of Belarus and strengthen the state's defense capabilities. The relevant decision was made today, November 24, at a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"Currently, we can observe an aggravation of the situation on the Belarusian borders. Today's decision of the Government will allow for the fast strengthening of vulnerable areas of the state border and prevent the flow of illegal migration from the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Security of citizens, protection of the territory and ensuring sustainable development of the country remain the key priorities of the Government," said First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
The funding will be allocated from the reserve fund of the state budget and directed to the units of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense to strengthen the protection of the state border on the Ukrainian-Belarusian section and eliminate the threat of emergency situation of a social nature.
In particular, a UAH 76 million resource will be provided for the State Border Guard Service to fortify vulnerable areas of the border and purchase barbed wire, UAH 108 million will be directed to the National Guard to provide additional defense force, and almost UAH 30 million - to the Ministry of Defense to involve the military in border protection aimed to improve the defense capacity of the State.
