At an extraordinary meeting on September 26, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a number of decisions to investigate the tragedy in Kharkiv region related to the crash of AN-26Sh and to provide assistance to the relatives of the victims. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"Today we have gathered for an extraordinary meeting to make a decision in connection with the terrible tragedy in Kharkiv region. The most important thing for us now is to conduct a quick investigation and provide assistance to the relatives of the victims," the Prime Minister stressed.
During the meeting, the Government decided to establish a State Commission to investigate into the reasons of this tragedy. The Commission will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Oleh Uruskyy, and the deputy chairman of the Commission will be Defense Minister Andrii Taran. It will also comprise Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ruslan Khomchak, Chairman of the State Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov, the First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Mykhailo Koval, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, Minister of Health Maxym Stepanov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleh Tatarov, Head of the State Aviation Service Olexandr Bilchuk, Head of the State Emergency Service Mykola Chechotkin, Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleksii Kucher and other official. All the Commission's members have been working on the site of the tragedy. On a decision of the Commission its composition can be changed.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has instructed the Government Commission headed by Oleh Uruskyy to prepare a report on its work by October 25.
In addition, to ensure an objective investigation, the Prime Minister instructed Defense Minister Andrii Taran to remove from office those officials involved in the organization of the flight.
The Government also issued an order on the allocation of one-time financial assistance in the amount of UAH 1,576,000 to members of the families of the victims. Payments are provided in accordance with the Law of Ukraine on Social Protection of Servicemen and Members of Their Families.
Members of the Government observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims. "On behalf of the entire Government, I would like to express my condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. Words cannot convey the pain of the loss... The valiant sons of Ukraine were on the plane," Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
