Before, the issue required settlement and deprived volunteers from other countries of the possibility to acquire temporary residency in Ukraine, which is the first step for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship.

“Volunteers from other States were not eligible to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, which is the first step towards naturalization. The Government has now approved a relevant mechanism,” Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk stressed.

Under the Government's decision, the mechanism of registration is determined as well as a sample (form) according to which volunteers will be able to request the commanders of subdivisions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations to issue temporary residence permits to foreigners and stateless persons.

It is important to note that with its decision the Government only simplifies the submission of documents, but the decision on obtaining citizenship is made in accordance with the current provisions of law.
