Government reduces the number of state border checkpoints
The Government adopted a decision to reduce the number of border checkpoints and control points. The corresponding order was approved at an extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, such a decision was developed to ensure the implementation of the decisions of the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations.
“Given the significant increase in the confirmed cases of coronavirus and the high level of transboundary migration, the State Commission has submitted the proposals. In order to implement these decisions, an order has been drawn up to reduce the number of border crossing points and control points to prevent threats to the population and the spread of coronavirus infection into the territory of Ukraine,” the Minister said.
The number of checkpoints and which particular points are to prolong operation will be determined today by the National Security and Defense Council.
At that, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stressed that all Ukrainians who are staying abroad at the moment will be able to return home freely.
“Today, thousands of Ukrainian citizens are outside our country. Certainly, every Ukrainian citizen will have a chance to return home,” the Head of Government emphasized.
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba informed that all Ukrainian Consulates abroad are ready to provide maximum assistance to citizens of Ukraine to ensure their protection and safe return home.
